The driving aesthetic for this project was “contemporary California ranch house” with a nod to mid century modern design. The original galley kitchen was cramped with no view of the oaks and sweeping valley below. The redesign prioritized an open concept, perfect for entertaining. Plain sliced white oak was the natural choice, with its warm tones and figured grain. We worked with the client and a neighboring machine shop to alter some antique brass knobs. Floating shelves instead of upper cabinets showcase their collection of handmade ceramics as well as optimizing natural light. The studio utilized solid poplar open shelving for more of a bohemian feel.
